Riding on the elevated railroad

Riding on the elevated railroad
It's pleasant and it just suits me
People living near the track never think you're looking back
Leave their window shades high up so you can see

In the first room I saw an old man shaving
He was frowning like the razor hurt his face
In the next room I saw a bulldog gazing
At a cat upon the window he had chased

In the next room I saw a lady cooking
While her man was lookint through the evening mails
In the next room I saw a little baby
Trying hard to bite his doggie's tail

Riding on the elevated railroad
It's pleasant and it just suits me
Take it day or night and you'll see that I'm right
Some mighty funny sights you'll see

You can ride in taxi cabs or in the subway
Airplanes are nice in summertime
But folks you don't know what you're really missing
Till you ride upon that elevated line

In the sitting room I saw a couple spooning
While the lights were all truned low
In the next room I saw an old maid praying
For a man to whisper,"Dear I love you so"

In the next room I saw a happy family
Sitting down to eat their evening meal
In the next room I saw a mighty mean boy
Trying hard his mother's cake to steal

Riding on the elevated railroad
It's pleasant and it just suits me
Take it day or night and you'll see that I'm right
Some mighty funny sights you'll see
